Tool Designer – Automotive (Rosslyn)

About the role
The Tool Designer will join the automotive component manufacturing team in Rosslyn, reporting to the Group Project & Technical Manager. You will be responsible for designing, developing and improving tooling, jigs, fixtures, dies, gauges and specialised manufacturing equipment to meet customer and production requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Design and produce detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for press tooling, jigs, fixtures and specialised equipment.
- Conduct design reviews, feasibility studies and tooling optimisation initiatives.
- Collaborate with CNC, Production, Engineering and Quality teams on tooling projects and troubleshooting.
- Prepare assembly drawings, bills of materials, operational guidelines and maintain revision‑controlled CAD data.
- Select appropriate tooling materials and manufacturing methods based on cost, durability and performance.
- Drive continuous‑improvement actions to reduce downtime, scrap, rework and tooling failures.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety and ISO system requirements.
Required profile
- National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool Design, Draughting or a related field.
- 3–5 years of tool design experience in automotive component manufacturing.
- Strong 2D and 3D CAD capability.
- Knowledge of tooling steels, machining processes, tolerancing and manufacturing feasibility.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and automotive quality systems (APQP, ISO TS 16949, ISO 14001).
