Temporary Plant Utilities Operations Technician – Cape Town

About the role

We are looking for a Temporary Plant Utilities Operations Technician to join a leading manufacturing and life‑sciences organisation in Cape Town. The role focuses on the efficient operation, monitoring and maintenance of critical utility systems supporting high‑performance production.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and operate utility plants including boilers, HVAC, reverse‑osmosis water, chiller, air‑compressor and refrigeration systems.
• Conduct daily inspections, record data and perform autonomous maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Execute preventative and corrective maintenance activities and support root‑cause analysis.
• Track energy consumption (water, electricity, effluent) and maintain accurate service records.
• Ensure compliance with maintenance schedules, statutory requirements, GMP, health & safety and quality procedures.
• Raise maintenance requisitions, manage service administration and participate in improvement, reliability and cost‑saving projects.
• Maintain 5S housekeeping standards and train contractors and employees on permit systems and equipment usage.
• Provide standby, overtime and shift coverage as required.

Required profile

• Trade‑tested Artisan with a Red Seal Certificate as an Electrician, Mechanical Fitter or Refrigeration Technician.
• Minimum N3 qualification (N4 advantageous) and several years of experience in a maintenance or utilities environment.
• Proven experience maintaining industrial plant and utility equipment.
• Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
