Temporary EPWP Work – Road, Waste, Lifeguard & Community Services

About the role

Beaufort West Local Municipality is offering temporary employment under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) for residents of Beaufort West, Murraysburg, Nelspoort and Merweville. Positions include road and stormwater maintenance, waste management, lifeguard assistance, community policing, facility assistance and data support.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain municipal roads and stormwater systems, including street cleaning, litter picking, sweeping and bin emptying.
• Support waste management activities such as waste sorting, recycling, landfill site upkeep and public awareness programmes.
• Assist at municipal swimming pools with safety duties and lifeguard support where qualified.
• Monitor by‑law compliance, conduct community policing patrols and report illegal activities.
• Provide administrative and data‑capture support for EPWP projects, including record keeping and basic computer tasks.

Required profile

• Be unemployed and available for the duration of the EPWP placement.
• Reside in the town for which you are applying.
• Willing and able to perform the duties associated with the selected project.
• Meet any additional qualifications specific to the role (e.g., lifeguard certification, supervisory experience).
• Provide a completed application form, CV, ID copy and relevant certificates.

Required skills

• Basic computer literacy and data‑entry capability.
• Stormwater and road maintenance techniques.
• Waste sorting and recycling procedures.
• Lifeguard or swimming safety certification (where applicable).
• Supervisory or leadership experience for team‑leader positions.
