Technology Transfer Officer

About the role

Innovus, the technology transfer office of Stellenbosch University, is looking for a motivated Technology Transfer Officer to bridge academic research and real‑world impact. You will support the identification, protection, development and commercialisation of university innovations.

Key responsibilities

• Network with researchers, industry partners, investors and other stakeholders to stimulate innovation and IP awareness.
• Assist researchers with disclosure processes and manage engagement activities across the university.
• Represent the university at conferences, workshops and networking events.
• Review technology disclosures, assess technical merit and commercial potential.
• Conduct market, industry and prior‑art research to inform IP decisions and commercialisation strategies.
• Evaluate technology readiness levels and help define development road‑maps.
• Support senior technology transfer professionals with research, reports, presentations and due‑diligence tasks.

Required profile

• Strong communication and relationship‑building abilities.
• Proactive attitude with excellent time‑management skills.
• Interest or experience in innovation, entrepreneurship, IP or business development.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
