Technical Training Officer – Welder & Boilermaker

About the role

We are seeking a Technical Training Officer to lead both theoretical and practical training for aspiring welder and boilermaker artisans at the Shukela Training Centre in Durban. Reporting to the Mechanical Technical Training Manager, you will play a key part in shaping the next generation of skilled tradespeople for the sugar industry and beyond.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver curriculum‑aligned classroom and workshop sessions using appropriate teaching methods.
• Design, develop and continuously improve training materials, manuals and assessment tools.
• Conduct assessments, trade tests and moderations, and compile learner reports and portfolios of evidence.
• Maintain training equipment in safe, operational condition and enforce health‑and‑safety standards.
• Provide customized training solutions to meet specific client requirements.
• Stay current with welding and boilermaking best practices through professional development.

Required profile

• Minimum N3 Certificate or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification with successful completion of the National Trade test in welding and boilermaking.
• At least three years of post‑apprenticeship industry experience in the welding/boilermaking trade.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong communication skills and ability to mentor learners.
