Technical Accountant – SAIPA Short term Insurance

About the role

The Technical Accountant will manage accounting, taxation and statutory compliance for SAIPA Short‑term Insurance. Reporting to senior finance leadership, the role ensures adherence to South African financial regulations and provides accurate financial guidance to support business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate cash‑flow items, ensuring all UMA‑related payments are authorised and documented.
• Perform bank, claim and premium reconciliations, investigate discrepancies and resolve unreconciled balances.
• Support month‑end and year‑end reporting, including setup of IMS structures and preparation of audit working papers.
• Manage trade payable and receivable reconciliations, preparing supporting documentation per UMA.
• Maintain internal financial controls, sign off SAP control capture sheets and assist with internal and external audits.
• Respond to ad‑hoc reporting queries and provide audit assistance as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
• Completed SAIPA articles.
• Strong knowledge of South African tax legislation and IFRS.
• Ability to handle multiple deadlines with high attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with SAP for transaction capture.
• Familiarity with accounting software such as Sage, Xero, CaseWare or Pastel.
