Tax Consultant (6-Month Contract)

About the role

Synergy Chartered Accountants Global is seeking an experienced Tax Consultant for a six‑month contract in Johannesburg. The role focuses on managing complex SARS matters, including disputes, verifications, audits, objections and appeals, while providing high‑quality tax compliance and advisory services to a diverse client portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Manage tax compliance for a portfolio of clients, preparing and reviewing Income Tax, VAT, PAYE and Provisional Tax submissions.
• Handle SARS verifications, audits and related correspondence.
• Prepare and manage objections and appeals, representing clients in disputes.
• Resolve assessments, penalties and other tax administration issues.
• Support tax advisory and consulting assignments.
• Review and regularise client tax affairs as required.

Required profile

• 3–5+ years of experience in a tax or accounting firm.
• Extensive practical experience with SARS eFiling and handling verifications, audits, objections and appeals.
• Strong knowledge of the SARS Tax Administration Act and related compliance procedures.
• Working knowledge of VAT, PAYE, UIF, SDL, Income Tax and Provisional Tax.
• Diploma or degree in Taxation, Accounting or a related field.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and strong attention to detail.
