Systems Engineer – Fire Directing Systems (FDS)

About the role

Denel Land Systems is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to lead the development, integration and lifecycle support of Fire Directing Systems (FDS) and Gun Laying Navigation Systems (GLNS) at its Lyttelton Campus.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, development, integration, testing and support of FDS/GLNS hardware and software.
• Apply Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMPs) and related processes throughout the product lifecycle.
• Develop and maintain Level A, B and C system and product specifications.
• Perform requirements analysis, allocation, traceability, verification and validation at system, subsystem and component levels.
• Produce and maintain defence‑grade engineering documentation (SSS, SSDD, SDD, STD, IRS, SVD).
• Ensure compliance with ISO 12207, MIL‑STD‑498 and MIL‑STD‑961D and generate certification evidence.
• Lead system integration, commissioning, qualification activities and engineering readiness reviews.
• Maintain structured engineering documentation, design data, MRIs and BOMs.
• Continuously improve Systems Engineering processes using industry best practices.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to promote knowledge sharing and innovation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical qualification.
• Professional registration (e.g., ECSA, INCOSE) is advantageous.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant systems engineering experience.
• Proven experience with Fire Directing Systems (FDS) and/or Indirect Fire Control Systems.
• Strong knowledge of defence technologies, products and systems engineering principles.
• Experience in software requirements analysis, detailed design, integration and system‑level testing.
