Systems Administrator – LIMS

About the role

Amatola Water is seeking a Systems Administrator specialised in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) to join the Infrastructure Planning & Development team at the Nahoon Dam site in East London. The role provides day‑to‑day technical support, configuration and validation of the LIMS platform to ensure reliable laboratory operations and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Configure and maintain LIMS functionalities and perform routine system monitoring.
• Provide first‑line technical support for users and troubleshoot issues promptly.
• Validate the LIMS to confirm fitness for intended use and uphold data integrity.
• Develop and update LIMS Standard Operating Procedures, work instructions and associated training modules.
• Assist with implementation of LIMS in the Quality Control department and deliver training during and after rollout.
• Support regulatory compliance with ISO 17025, GLP and cGMP standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, microbiology, information systems or a related discipline.
• 1–2 years of hands‑on experience administering a LIMS platform, preferably with a certification.
• Ability to work independently and report to the Senior Manager – Scientific Service.
• Preference will be given to female candidates in line with employment‑equity targets.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the broader Microsoft Office suite.
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational database concepts.
• Experience with LIMS platforms such as LabWare, STARLIMS or Thermo Fisher.
• Familiarity with ISO 17025, GLP and cGMP regulatory frameworks.
• Basic programming knowledge in Python or Java (optional but advantageous).
