Study Coordinator – Fixed Term (12 months)

About the role

The Perinatal HIV Research Unit (Wits PHRU) seeks a Study Coordinator to manage the logistical aspects of paediatric clinical studies. This 12‑month fixed‑term position ensures compliance with Good Clinical Practice, study protocols, and standard operating procedures while serving as a key liaison between the trial team and sponsors.

Key responsibilities

• Set study recruitment and enrolment targets for the team and ensure they are achieved.
• Review data according to study protocols and manage day‑to‑day study operations.
• Coordinate scheduled and unscheduled patient visits in line with protocol requirements.
• Conduct protocol, SOP, and study‑related training for staff.
• Handle regulatory and ethics submissions and maintain the Investigator Site File.
• Manage stakeholder relationships with sponsors, laboratories, pharmacy, and monitors.
• Oversee QCMP and DQMP activities, petty cash, and daily reporting of study activities.
• Develop CRFs and source documentation, review participant files for completeness, and compile progress reports.
• Supervise site staff and coordinate study update meetings.

Required profile

• Qualified Registered Nurse or Clinical Associate registered with the South African Nursing Council or HPCSA.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a clinical research environment.
• Ability to work under pressure, exercise independent decision‑making, and demonstrate empathy for people living with HIV/AIDS.
• Proficiency in local languages.
