Structural Engineer – Cape Town

About the role

FHI Consulting Engineers is expanding its Cape Town team and has created a permanent position for a capable Structural Engineer. The role involves designing, analysing and delivering safe, practical and cost‑effective structural solutions for a variety of building and infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Design and analyse reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry and timber structures.
• Prepare structural calculations, specifications, reports and technical documentation.
• Develop structural concepts and practical construction solutions.
• Review drawings and coordinate structural requirements with architects and other consultants.
• Conduct site inspections, assess construction quality and ensure compliance with standards.
• Identify structural risks and resolve technical issues during design and construction.
• Attend project, design and site meetings and monitor progress against scope, programme and budget.

Required profile

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering.
• Minimum three years of relevant structural design experience in a consulting environment.
• Working knowledge of South African building regulations and structural design standards.
• Experience designing reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry and timber structures.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites.

Required skills

• PROKON SUMO and related PROKON design modules.
• Revit.
• AutoCAD.
• BIM software.
