Specialist - Insurance Operations (Claims Advisory)

About the role

Marsh South Africa is looking for a Specialist in Insurance Operations (Claims Advisory) for its Port Elizabeth office. The role centres on managing a portfolio of complex and significant claims and clients, reviewing and processing new claims and following them through to settlement or payment.

Key responsibilities

• Review, process and collect information on new claims received from clients and colleagues, then notify the appropriate insurers
• Identify and validate potential policies and coverage, update core claims applications and track each claim to completion or to the end of Marsh's agreed responsibilities
• Manage and facilitate subsequent claim movements, including settlement or payment, reporting and client communication
• Provide procedural claims guidance and advice to clients
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, colleagues, service providers, third parties and insurers
• Handle, prioritise and meet KPIs, generate claims reports and attend meetings with clients, insurers or third parties as required
• Maintain quality in client deliverables, including monitoring delivery and invoicing

Required profile

• Legal degree, diploma or university degree (or equivalent experience) advantageous
• Matric required
• Insurance qualification preferable; FAIS accreditation and RE examination preferable or to be obtained
• Minimum 5 years' work experience in the sector
• Knowledge of self-insurance, aggregate and captive claims handling
• Experience in a client-facing role

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Word, Excel) or equivalent
• Strong numerical and organisational skills, with ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
• Good decision-making, problem-solving and communication skills
• Comfortable working with technology solutions
