Solar PV & BESS Solutions Engineer (Commercial & Industrial)

About the role

We are seeking a Solar PV & BESS Solutions Engineer to design and deliver high‑performance solar and battery storage systems for commercial and industrial customers in South Africa. The role combines technical design, simulation, and commercial support to ensure projects meet grid compliance and client ROI expectations.

Key responsibilities

• Generate accurate solar yield predictions and battery degradation models using PVSyst, Helioscope and PVSol.
• Architect modular Battery Energy Storage Systems for load shifting, peak shaving and backup power.
• Specify Tier‑1 PV modules, inverters, battery cells, EMS and mounting structures.
• Draft AC/DC single‑line diagrams, three‑line diagrams and plant layouts in AutoCAD.
• Ensure designs comply with South African Grid Code, NRS 097‑2‑1 and SANS 10142‑1.
• Analyse municipal and Eskom half‑hourly billing data to create load profiles.
• Prepare BoQ, cost estimates and technical proposals for tenders and PPAs.

Required profile

• BEng, BSc or BTech in Electrical Engineering from a recognised South African university.
• ECSA registration as Candidate Engineer (Pr. Eng or Pr. Tech advantageous).
• 3–5 years of hands‑on design experience in the South African solar PV sector.
• Proven delivery of at least two C&I projects >500 kWp with integrated storage.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in PVSyst, Helioscope and PVSol.
• AutoCAD for electrical schematics.
• Microsoft Excel for data processing and financial modelling.
• Familiarity with HOMER Pro or DigSILENT.
• Knowledge of LV/MV electrical infrastructure, transformer selection and SCADA interfaces.
