Software Developer II – Contract (Johannesburg)

About the role

Our client in Sandton, Johannesburg is seeking a Software Developer II on a contract basis. The role involves turning detailed designs into high‑quality code, configuring systems, and mentoring junior developers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop robust, fault‑tolerant components for large, complex systems.
• Produce clean, maintainable code following Agile and SDLC practices.
• Create and execute unit and system test cases.
• Maintain source‑control repositories and manage deployment artefacts.
• Troubleshoot software issues and provide guidance to the team.
• Document work according to organisational standards.
• Collaborate with designers, product owners and DevOps engineers.
• Mentor multiple software developers.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent; diploma or certificate in programming languages preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of professional programming experience.
• Ability to work independently and support team members.

Required skills

• Programming in multiple languages.
• Understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Agile development methodology.
• System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) knowledge.
• Unit and system testing.
• Source‑control management (e.g., Git).
• Deployment and release management.
