Slitter Machine Operator – Flexible Packaging

About the role

Our client is looking for an experienced Slitter Machine Operator to join a fast‑moving production team in the flexible packaging industry. You will be responsible for converting master reels into finished rolls that meet strict customer specifications and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate slitting machines (duplex, centre‑wind, surface‑wind) in line with production schedules and job cards.
• Adjust machine settings to achieve required slit widths, tensions and roll dimensions.
• Monitor machine performance and product quality throughout the run.
• Inspect finished products for compliance with quality standards.
• Perform reel changes, blade changes and routine machine adjustments.
• Identify and resolve minor machine faults and production issues.
• Minimise material waste and maximise equipment efficiency.
• Complete production records, quality documentation and downtime reports accurately.
• Carry out routine cleaning and basic preventative maintenance.
• Maintain work areas according to 5S and housekeeping standards.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric qualification.
• 1–3 years of experience operating slitting machines in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in flexible packaging, plastics, paper, film or converting sectors.
• Ability to read and interpret production specifications and job cards.
• Willingness to work shifts and overtime as required.

• Machine setup and blade adjustment.
• Roll tension control and web handling.
• Basic fault‑finding and troubleshooting.
• Quality control procedures.
• Forklift operation (licence advantageous).
