Silicon Design Engineer (ASIC Physical Design)

About the role

We are seeking a Silicon Design Engineer to lead the physical implementation of our next‑generation hardware accelerator. The compute architecture and RTL are already verified; you will take the design from Verilog through to GDSII and ultimately silicon, starting with a 28 nm test chip and progressing to larger production devices.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full RTL‑to‑GDSII flow: synthesis, floor‑planning, power planning, clock‑tree synthesis, place‑and‑route, timing closure, physical verification and sign‑off.
• Integrate accelerator blocks with SRAM macros, clocking, reset, pad ring, JTAG/DFT infrastructure and third‑party IP such as DDR/LPDDR or USB PHYs.
• Collaborate with FPGA and architecture teams to deliver tapeout‑ready designs.
• Coordinate foundry deliverables, MPW shuttle submissions and post‑silicon bring‑up activities.
• Define physical implementation strategies for future generations of the accelerator chip.

Required profile

• At least one successful ASIC tapeout that resulted in working silicon.
• Strong hands‑on experience with industry‑standard EDA tools for RTL‑to‑GDSII implementation.
• Proven ability to work with both soft RTL and hard IP blocks.
• Familiarity with timing constraints, physical design trade‑offs and post‑silicon debugging.

Required skills

• SystemVerilog
• ASIC physical design flow (synthesis, STA, place‑and‑route, DRC/LVS, IR‑drop, power integrity)
• Clock‑tree synthesis, floor‑planning, power planning, timing closure
• Integration of SRAM, DDR/LPDDR, USB PHY, JTAG/DFT, PCIe or Ethernet IP
• Experience with TSMC 28 nm (or more advanced) process nodes
• MPW/shuttle program coordination and foundry interaction
• Post‑silicon bring‑up and debug
