SHERQ Officer – Mpumalanga (Construction Health & Safety)

About the role

The SHERQ Officer will lead health, safety, environmental, quality and risk assurance activities for high‑risk Eskom projects in Mpumalanga. Reporting to senior engineering management, the role ensures strict compliance with South African legislation and company policies.

Key responsibilities

• Enforce the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Construction Regulations and Eskom SHEQ policies on site.
• Act as a SACPCMP PrCHSO, validate safety systems and exercise stop‑work authority when hazards arise.
• Conduct Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) for high‑voltage, civil and plant zones.
• Perform safety, quality and environmental audits aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
• Investigate incidents, produce flash reports, root‑cause analyses and close‑out documentation.
• Maintain contractor health‑ and‑safety files and ensure client‑approved documentation.
• Prepare weekly and monthly SHERQ performance packs for engineering oversight and audit review.
• Deliver toolbox talks, baseline health training and behavioural‑safety programmes.

Required profile

• Current professional registration with SACPCMP as a PrCHSO (mandatory).
• National Diploma or Degree in Health & Safety Management, Environmental Health or related engineering field.
• Relevant certifications such as SAMTRAC and/or NEBOSH.
• Proven experience managing safety packages on Eskom distribution, transmission or generation plants.
• Based in or able to mobilise quickly to Mpumalanga province.
