Service Technician / Millwright – Packaging Machinery

About the role

A leading manufacturer of automated packaging machinery is looking for a hands‑on Service Technician / Millwright to join its Service Department. The role involves installing, commissioning, maintaining and repairing packaging equipment at customer sites across South Africa and internationally. The successful candidate will enjoy travelling, solving complex electro‑mechanical faults and working directly with customers in the FMCG, food processing and beverage sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Install, commission and start up automated packaging machinery at customer sites.
• Perform preventative maintenance, servicing and breakdown repairs.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and PLC‑related faults.
• Conduct machine audits and recommend improvements.
• Provide after‑sales technical support and customer training.
• Complete service reports and documentation accurately.
• Work closely with customers to minimise production downtime.
• Ensure all work complies with health, safety and quality standards.
• Travel extensively throughout South Africa and internationally as required.

Required profile

• Trade‑tested Millwright qualification (essential) with at least N2 level.
• Valid Code B driver’s licence.
• 3–10 years of experience servicing automated production or packaging machinery.
• Proven experience installing and commissioning industrial equipment.
• Demonstrated field service or customer‑site support experience.
• Strong troubleshooting and fault‑finding abilities.
