Senior Systems Administrator

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to manage and evolve critical IT infrastructure for a partner company operating in South Africa. You will ensure that servers, networks, storage, cloud services and virtual environments remain secure, highly available and performant.

Key responsibilities

• Administer Windows and Linux servers, maintaining performance, security and reliability.
• Design, implement and manage virtualization platforms such as VMware and Hyper‑V.
• Develop, test and maintain backup and disaster‑recovery strategies.
• Monitor system health, respond to alerts and resolve infrastructure incidents.
• Implement security controls including firewalls, antivirus, IDS/IPS and conduct vulnerability assessments.
• Manage user accounts, permissions and authentication via Active Directory and related directory services.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and performance reports.
• Automate routine tasks through scripting to improve operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with internal IT teams, vendors and business stakeholders on migrations, upgrades and modernization projects.

Required profile

• Proven experience administering Windows and Linux server environments.
• Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V).
• Hands‑on experience with backup, disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
• Understanding of security best practices, firewalls, antivirus and IDS/IPS solutions.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and performance metrics.
• Experience mentoring junior IT staff and providing advanced technical support.
