Senior Service Level Engineer L2 - Networks & Connectivity

About the role

A UK technology and managed services provider supporting complex network and connectivity environments for large enterprise customers has a permanent, onsite Senior Service Level Engineer (L2) position in Cape Town. The role sits within a senior Tier 2 function and takes ownership of complex network incidents through to resolution, working with carriers, vendors and specialist teams. It is Monday to Friday, no nights or weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Own complex L2 network and connectivity incidents from escalation to resolution
• Troubleshoot enterprise LAN/WAN environments across single and multi-site customer networks
• Work hands-on with Cisco, Juniper and Extreme Networks routing and switching; support Cisco Meraki switching, security appliances and dashboards
• Troubleshoot and implement firewall changes on Fortinet FortiGate, Palo Alto and Cisco platforms
• Diagnose VLAN, trunking, spanning tree, link aggregation and stacking issues
• Troubleshoot routing in live environments, including OSPF and BGP
• Support enterprise wireless environments (Ruckus, Meraki, Extreme Networks) and SD-WAN (FortiSD-WAN, Meraki)
• Investigate broadband, Ethernet and DIA circuit faults, and diagnose site-to-site and remote-access VPNs, NAT and firewall policies
• Use packet capture and analysis to locate faults, and troubleshoot TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and NAT
• Act as technical lead during P1 and major incidents, and mentor first-line engineers

Required profile

• Ideally 5+ years in IT services, network support or an MSP, including at least 2 years at second-line level or above
• Strong hands-on troubleshooting ability, owning complex issues rather than escalating them
• Experience with several of the listed technologies
• Certifications such as CCNA/CCNP, Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto PCNSA/PCNSE, JNCIA/JNCIS, CMNA or ITIL 4 are beneficial but not essential
