Senior Section Engineer – Mining (Polokwane)

About the role

The Senior Section Engineer will lead the engineering function for a mining operation in Polokwane, overseeing mechanical, electrical and maintenance disciplines. This senior management position reports to the Engineering Manager and is responsible for driving reliability, safety and continuous improvement across plant assets.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership to the engineering department, including mechanical, electrical and maintenance teams.
• Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act and all relevant engineering legislation.
• Develop and implement maintenance strategies to maximise equipment reliability and performance.
• Manage engineering budgets, capital expenditure and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Drive asset management and lifecycle planning for optimal plant performance.
• Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure adherence to standards.
• Partner with production teams to achieve business objectives.

Required profile

• Degree in engineering (undergraduate, postgraduate or diploma).
• Proven experience in a senior engineering or management role within mining or heavy‑industry environments.
• Strong knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act and related engineering regulations.
• Ability to develop and execute maintenance strategies that enhance equipment reliability.
