Senior Railway Signaling Engineer (Gauteng)

About the role

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Railway Signaling Engineer to join our engineering hub in the Gauteng region (Pretoria/Johannesburg). You will act as the technical anchor for safety‑critical signalling solutions, overseeing design, verification and field commissioning of modern train control systems.

Key responsibilities

• Produce, check and verify detailed signalling designs, control tables, bonding/cable plans and power calculations.
• Integrate signalling technologies such as CBTC, ETCS and PTC with existing railway subsystems, focusing on vital and non‑vital interlocking.
• Lead hazard identification, risk assessment and independent verification to ensure compliance with railway safety standards.
• Support field installation, testing and troubleshooting of trackside infrastructure including axle counters, relays and track circuits.
• Manage project delivery, timelines and budgets while mentoring junior engineers.

Required profile

• BSc, BEng or National Diploma in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Current, valid IRIR membership with an appropriate licence (Design, Principles or Verifier preferred).
• 5–10+ years of hands‑on experience in mainline or urban rail signalling and train control systems.

Required skills

• CBTC, ETCS, PTC signalling solutions.
• Siemens Mobility signalling platforms.
• Knowledge of EN 50126, EN 50128 and EN 50129 safety standards.
• Hazard identification and risk assessment.
• Design verification, control tables, bonding/cable planning and power calculations.
• Experience with axle counters, relays and track circuits.
