Senior Pharmacist – Hospital Pharmacy Leadership

About the role

The Senior Pharmacist at Netcare N1City Hospital will lead the provision of medication and related services to patients and the multidisciplinary healthcare team. This role ensures safe, effective, and cost‑efficient pharmaceutical care within a high‑volume hospital environment.

Key responsibilities

• Dispense hospital and retail prescriptions, managing front‑shop queues.
• Provide patient and staff counseling on drug selection, dosage, interactions, side‑effects and therapeutic effects.
• Prepare, issue and control oncology medicines in line with pharmacy policies.
• Act as custodian for Schedule 5/6 drugs, complying with legal and legislative requirements.
• Maintain accurate prescription records and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Supervise stock acquisition, storage, dispensing, handling and packaging to guarantee safety and quality.
• Conduct cyclical and full stock takes, manage re‑ordering and monitor expiry dates.
• Update clinicians on out‑of‑stock situations and suggest therapeutic alternatives.
• Support administrative tasks such as duty‑roster preparation, Kronos time‑card management and housekeeping duties.

Required profile

• Registered pharmacist with extensive experience in a hospital setting.
• Demonstrated ability to manage high‑risk and oncology medicines safely.
• Strong knowledge of South African pharmacy legislation and Schedule 5/6 drug regulations.
• Proven track record in stock control, procurement and cost‑effective medication management.
• Excellent communication skills for patient counseling and interdisciplinary collaboration.
