Senior Network and Security Engineer

About the role

The client, a leading insurance organisation, is seeking a Senior Network and Security Engineer to join their Sandton team. You will own the design, implementation and operation of the enterprise network, firewalls and Azure connectivity in a highly regulated financial services environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deploy and maintain LAN, WAN, WLAN and datacentre infrastructure, focusing on Extreme Networks platforms.
• Configure and manage VLANs, STP, link aggregation, OSPF, BGP and high‑availability routing.
• Operate and optimise FortiGate firewalls, including policy creation, NAT, UTM profiles and rule clean‑up.
• Monitor network performance, respond to incidents and support disaster‑recovery scenarios.
• Lead complex troubleshooting, act as escalation point and mentor junior engineers.
• Engage with vendors, document configurations and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven hands‑on experience with FortiGate firewalls.
• Strong expertise in Extreme Networks switching hardware.
• Practical exposure to Azure networking and hybrid cloud connectivity.
• Ability to work independently in a security‑critical, regulated environment.
• Excellent communication skills for both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
