Senior Mechanical Engineer – Mining & Minerals Processing

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design activities for mining and minerals processing projects. The role involves ensuring that all designs meet project requirements, company objectives and statutory regulations while supporting safe and cost‑effective construction and operation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review technical specifications, calculations, design criteria, tender and contract documents.
• Act as discipline lead engineer when required and maintain up‑to‑date project filing systems.
• Ensure designs facilitate construction methods, plant maintenance and operational efficiency.
• Review and comment on multidisciplinary design documents and approve vendor submissions.
• Estimate, control and review design scope changes and attend factory acceptance tests.
• Liaise with clients, site construction staff and other consultants to resolve technical queries.
• Prepare project close‑out reports and conduct regular design group meetings.
• Contribute to progress reports, proposals and man‑hour estimates.

Required profile

• BSc, BEng, B.Tech or National Diploma with a minimum of 10 years of experience.
• Registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
• At least 8 years of mechanical design experience in mining and minerals processing, both in the office and on‑site.
• Proven experience in slurry pumping, materials handling and mechanical package design.
• Strong computer literacy – proficient with Word, databases, spreadsheets and discipline‑specific design software.
