Senior Mechanical Engineer

About the role
Enginuity is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical scope on EPCM projects for mining, minerals processing and heavy‑industrial clients. Based in Centurion, the role combines hands‑on technical leadership with client interaction and on‑site support throughout the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- Lead mechanical engineering scope on EPCM projects, studies and tenders from concept to commissioning.
- Develop and review specifications, datasheets, calculations, equipment lists, design basis reports, costings and trade‑off analyses.
- Specify and select mechanical equipment such as pumps, conveyors, material‑handling systems, comminution circuits, pressure vessels and packaged units.
- Coordinate and review 3D models, general arrangement drawings, piping isometrics and other digital deliverables.
- Prepare technical bid evaluations, review supplier documentation, witness factory acceptance testing and oversee procurement packages.
- Conduct peer reviews, provide technical oversight to other engineers and mentor junior staff.
- Engage directly with clients, presenting technical methodologies to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Support construction and commissioning teams on site, resolve design queries and manage field engineering changes.
- Contribute to HAZOPs, design reviews, risk assessments and proposal development.
Required profile
- BEng or BSc (Eng) in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised institution.
- 8‑12 years of relevant experience, including significant EPCM project delivery.
- Experience on both brownfield and greenfield projects in mining, minerals processing or heavy‑industrial environments.
- Demonstrated expertise with bulk material‑handling systems (conveyors, transfer stations, stockpiles, chutes, crushing and screening).
- Strong knowledge of South African regulatory frameworks (SANS, ASME, API, OHS Act, MHSA).
- Professional Engineer registration with ECSA is optional.
Required skills
- Mechanical specifications, datasheets, calculations and equipment sizing.
- Design basis reports, cost estimations and trade‑off analysis.
- Selection of pumps, conveyors, material‑handling equipment, comminution circuits, pressure vessels and packaged units.
- 3D modelling coordination, GA drawings and piping isometrics.
- Technical bid evaluation, supplier documentation review and factory acceptance testing.
- Peer review, technical oversight and mentorship.
- HAZOP participation, design reviews and risk assessment.
- Compliance with SANS, ASME, API, OHS Act and MHSA standards.
