Senior Mechanical Engineer (EPCM) – 12-Month Contract

About the role

Our client, a leading mining house, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support a major platinum mining project in Sub‑Saharan Africa. The role is based in Johannesburg with travel to the project site to provide engineering, construction, commissioning and operational readiness expertise.

Key responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering expertise across the full project lifecycle (EPCM).
• Support engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and operational readiness activities.
• Lead and oversee plant commissioning (C1‑C5) on site, delivering technical leadership to site teams.
• Manage vendors and contractors, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams and liaise with stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng) or eligibility to obtain registration.
• Valid passport and ability to travel internationally.
• 12–15 years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in mining or minerals processing.
• Extensive EPCM project delivery experience on greenfield and brownfield sites.
• Proven experience leading large multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong construction, commissioning and operational readiness background.
• Experience with platinum processing plants is highly advantageous.

• Competitive salary package of R140 000 – R160 000 per month.
