Senior Mechanical Designer – Mowbray, Cape Town

About the role

The Senior Mechanical Designer will join Rainmaker Acquisition’s engineering team in Cape Town, reporting to the Lead Designer. You will be responsible for producing high‑quality 2D and 3D models and detailed drawings for material handling and mine plant projects, ensuring they meet budget and schedule targets.

Key responsibilities

• Develop 2D and 3D designs using MicroStation, Autodesk AEC suite and Bentley/OpenBuildings Designer.
• Produce detailed plant and material‑handling drawings that comply with company CAD standards.
• Manage design deliverables within defined budgeted hours and project timelines.
• Collaborate with senior design staff, clients, vendors and construction teams.
• Apply sound fabrication and construction techniques to ensure constructability.
• Maintain documentation in line with company drawing office procedures.

Required profile

• Engineering Design Drafting qualification or equivalent from a recognised institution.
• 10+ years of experience in plant design and process plant engineering.
• South African citizenship or permanent residency.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MicroStation (2D/3D).
• Experience with Autodesk AEC suite.
• Experience with Bentley suite and OpenBuildings Designer.
• Strong CAD drafting and detailing abilities for plant and material‑handling systems.
• Solid understanding of fabrication and construction methods.
