Senior Manager – Compliance

About the role

Nedbank is seeking a Senior Manager – Compliance to provide expert advice on domestic and international legislation, ensuring compliance and governance across the Personal and Business Banking cluster. Based in Johannesburg (Sandton) with a hybrid work model, the role protects the bank’s reputation by minimizing regulatory risk.

Key responsibilities

• Advise business units on compliance best practices and create awareness of daily compliance implications.
• Support the central function in developing policies, procedures, frameworks and tools focused on risk legislation.
• Define and maintain governance frameworks, ensuring good governance practice.
• Monitor business committees to ensure they operate according to required governance standards.
• Assess committee adherence to governance requirements and mitigate compliance risks.
• Identify and define the regulatory universe applicable to each business unit.
• Conduct compliance risk and control assessments (CRAs) and test the effectiveness of business controls.
• Advise on regulatory changes and their potential impact on the business.
• Influence enhancement of business processes and methodologies to prevent breaches.
• Promote cross‑cluster engagement, manage stakeholder relationships and obtain buy‑in for new or enhanced processes.
• Stay abreast of developments in compliance, uphold Nedbank’s vision and values, and lead by example.
• Manage performance through training, development and HR channels, and contribute to culture‑building initiatives.

Required profile

• Matric / Grade 12 (NQF Level) qualification.
• Extensive experience in compliance, governance and risk management within the banking sector.
• Strong knowledge of domestic and international legislation relevant to financial services.
• Proven ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, leadership and performance‑management skills.
