Senior Legal Associate

About the role

The Senior Legal Associate will support the company’s legal and regulatory functions across multiple African jurisdictions and beyond, covering payments, crypto assets and broader financial services. This intermediate‑level role offers exposure to diverse legal environments and evolving fintech regulation.

Key responsibilities

• Support new licence applications, liaise with regulators and external counsel, and track licence renewals.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial, vendor and technology agreements; maintain contract templates.
• Assist with formation and maintenance of corporate entities, statutory filings, annual returns and board documentation.
• Prepare onboarding documentation for banking, payment and trading counterparties and manage ongoing legal relationships.
• Conduct legal research on emerging financial, crypto and payments regulations; engage with regulators and partners.
• Provide day‑to‑day support on operational, regulatory and strategic legal projects, including document preparation and correspondence.

Required profile

• LLB degree and admitted attorney.
• Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience in a law firm or in‑house legal department, focused on financial services, banking & payments, or crypto assets.
• Proven ability to work independently in both structured and unstructured environments.
• Meticulous attention to detail, strong organisational abilities and excellent written/oral communication.
• Comfortable performing administrative tasks and strong analytical/problem‑solving skills.
