Senior IT Technician (Gauteng)

About the role

An established South African industrial group is seeking a Senior IT Technician to join its Gauteng‑based IT team. This senior, hands‑on position involves managing complex infrastructure, networking and support tasks across multiple sites while leading a team of five technicians.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advanced technical support for desktop, server and network environments.
• Configure, deploy and administer Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP and DNS.
• Maintain corporate LAN, WAN, wireless, firewalls, VPNs, routing and inter‑site connectivity.
• Support mail infrastructure, SMTP routing and troubleshoot related issues.
• Deploy and manage virtualised server environments.
• Monitor performance, conduct root‑cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.
• Automate processes through scripting and improve IT procedures.
• Support CCTV/IP cameras, biometric access control and other network‑integrated systems.
• Manage escalated Service Desk requests and ensure SLA compliance.
• Produce technical documentation, train users and guide junior team members.

Required profile

• Several years of hands‑on experience in IT infrastructure, networking and support.
• Strong problem‑solving ability with a focus on permanent solutions.
• Comfortable leading a small technical team and providing mentorship.
• Willingness to travel between sites for installations and support.
