Senior DevOps/SRE Cloud Engineer

About the role

Our client is looking for a Senior DevOps / SRE Cloud Engineer to take ownership of their Azure‑based Kubernetes environment. This is a fully remote opportunity for a South African professional with strong Kubernetes, Azure, Terraform, and SRE experience.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain production Kubernetes clusters and Azure infrastructure.
• Manage Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
• Build and maintain GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines.
• Own monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and SLOs.
• Manage secrets, identity, networking, and security across environments.
• Troubleshoot production issues and improve system reliability.
• Partner with engineering teams to optimise performance and scalability.
• Lead incident response and contribute to capacity planning.

Required profile

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years' experience in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering.
• 2–3+ years' experience running Kubernetes workloads in production.
• 2+ years' experience with Azure.
• Strong production experience with Azure AKS.
• Strong Kubernetes experience, including Helm, operators, node pools, troubleshooting, upgrades, and capacity planning.
• Strong Terraform experience with modular Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience with Docker and containerisation.
• Strong GitHub Actions and CI/CD experience.
• Experience with Prometheus and Grafana.
• Strong Linux and Bash scripting skills.
• Experience with Azure Key Vault, Entra ID, managed identities, and Azure networking.
• Strong understanding of secrets management and cloud security.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
