Senior Database Administrator (Pretoria)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator to lead performance, reliability and security of enterprise‑scale SQL Server environments in Pretoria. The role is a 12‑month contract, working with modern infrastructure, automation and cloud solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and maintain High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions.
• Implement and manage complex replication and data movement architectures.
• Proactively monitor databases and resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Conduct advanced tuning using execution plans, profiling tools and wait statistics.
• Lead root‑cause investigations and implement lasting fixes.
• Drive automation through scripting and self‑service tooling.
• Support cloud adoption and infrastructure modernization projects.
• Ensure compliance, security, auditing, encryption and access governance.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and operational standards.
• Mentor junior DBAs and participate in after‑hours incident response.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of enterprise database administration experience.
• Degree in IT, Computer Science or related field.
• Strong expertise in SQL Server or comparable RDBMS.
• Proven experience with HA, DR and replication technologies.
• Advanced performance tuning and query optimisation skills.
• Scripting/automation experience (PowerShell, Bash, Python).
• Excellent troubleshooting and incident management capabilities.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
