Senior Database Administrator – Durban

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Database Administrator to lead the performance, reliability and security of our enterprise‑scale SQL Server environments in Durban. The role is a 12‑month contract focused on high‑availability, disaster‑recovery and automation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions.
• Manage complex replication and data‑movement architectures.
• Proactively monitor databases, diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Conduct advanced tuning using execution plans, profiling tools and wait statistics.
• Lead root‑cause investigations and deliver lasting fixes.
• Drive automation through scripting and self‑service tooling.
• Support cloud adoption and infrastructure modernization projects.
• Ensure compliance, security, auditing, encryption and access governance.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and operational standards.
• Mentor junior DBAs and participate in after‑hours incident response.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of enterprise database administration experience.
• Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field.
• Proven expertise with SQL Server or comparable RDBMS.
• Strong background in High Availability, Disaster Recovery and Replication technologies.
• Advanced performance‑tuning and query‑optimization skills.
• Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash or Python.
• Excellent troubleshooting and incident‑management capabilities.
