Senior Data Scientist – AI Agentic Systems

About the role

Our client in Pretoria is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead the design and delivery of advanced AI agentic systems. You will shape technical strategy, mentor engineers, and ensure production‑grade reliability for enterprise‑level generative AI solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Define and build agentic system architectures using Amazon Bedrock AgentCore and frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, and Strands Agents.
• Lead model selection, fine‑tuning, and inference strategy, balancing cost and performance.
• Design containerised deployment standards with Docker and Kubernetes for scalable, fault‑tolerant ML operations.
• Architect secure, low‑latency networking for model‑to‑service and service‑to‑service communication across private and public networks.
• Perform systems‑level performance engineering, including compute accelerator selection, load testing, and capacity planning.
• Establish MLOps and GenAI Ops practices, covering CI/CD pipelines, model versioning, and automated deployment.
• Implement observability, logging, monitoring, and incident‑response processes for production AI systems.
• Own end‑to‑end AI workload design, from data pipelines through training, inference, orchestration, and lifecycle management.
• Integrate foundation models into enterprise RAG and tool‑use pipelines to enable complex real‑world use cases.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Academic qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics or a related field.
• Proven track record delivering large‑scale AI solutions for enterprise customers, with full ownership of architecture, operations, and stakeholder engagement.
