Senior Counsel – Regulatory Affairs

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Senior Counsel to lead regulatory affairs for Southern Africa. Reporting to the Senior Managing Counsel, Regulatory EEMEA in Dubai, the role supports the development and execution of regulatory strategy across the region.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement regulatory strategy for Southern Africa and selected business verticals within the EEMEA region.
• Engage proactively with regulatory authorities to align Mastercard’s business objectives.
• Prepare and submit regulatory filings, responding to regulator requests in line with internal policies.
• Provide regulatory advice to internal teams on matters arising in Southern Africa and the broader EEMEA region.
• Participate in multi‑dimensional projects across business units and regions, collaborating with cross‑functional partners.
• Defend the company in proceedings or quasi‑proceedings with regional regulators.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate regulatory risks, supporting implementation of appropriate controls.
• Collaborate closely with Government Affairs, PAIR, and Regional Counsel teams to stay informed of regional and global developments.

Required profile

• LLB or JD from a reputable law school.
• Deep understanding of South African and broader Southern African regulatory environments.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Relevant experience in a regulatory legal position.
