Senior Counsel, Regulatory Affairs

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Senior Counsel to lead regulatory affairs for Southern Africa within its Global Regulatory team. Reporting to the Senior Managing Counsel for the EEMEA region based in Dubai, the role will shape and execute regulatory strategy across identified business verticals.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement regulatory strategy for Southern Africa and relevant EEMEA business lines.
• Engage proactively with regulators to align Mastercard’s business objectives with regional requirements.
• Prepare and submit regulatory filings, responding to requests in line with internal policies.
• Provide regulatory advice to internal stakeholders on South African and broader EEMEA matters.
• Participate in cross‑functional projects and support defence of the company in regulatory proceedings.
• Identify and assess regulatory risks, recommending controls to mitigate exposure.
• Collaborate closely with Government Affairs, PAIR, and Regional Counsel teams.

Required profile

• LLB or JD from a reputable law school.
• Deep knowledge of South African and Southern African regulatory environments.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
• Proven experience in a regulatory role within a corporation, association, or government.
