Senior Bioinformatics Developer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Developer to design, build, and optimise scalable pipelines that process complex genomic data for clinical and research applications. This remote position supports precision medicine initiatives by turning scientific challenges into robust software solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Build, maintain, and improve pipelines for genomic variant analysis using modern workflow orchestration tools.
• Develop reproducible, scalable bioinformatics workflows that follow best practices in software engineering.
• Design and implement tools for analysing large genomic datasets and supporting advanced computational biology tasks.
• Optimise existing code and pipelines to enhance performance, efficiency, and scalability.
• Ensure data processing workflows are accurate, maintainable, and production‑ready.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and interdisciplinary teams to translate biological problems into technical solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of bioinformatics platforms and development practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or a related field (advanced degree a plus).
• Minimum 4 years of professional experience in Linux environments developing bioinformatics pipelines.
• Strong problem‑solving abilities and excellent written and verbal English communication.
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively to team objectives.

Required skills

• Python programming (primary language).
• Perl scripting (advantageous).
• Version control with Git.
• Containerisation using Docker.
• Experience with databases and data integration techniques.
• Familiarity with workflow orchestration / pipeline management tools.
• Solid understanding of genomics, genetics, and molecular biology.
