Senior Accountant (Operational)

About the role

Our client, a growing telecommunications company based in Sandton, is looking for a Senior Accountant (Operational) to own the operational accounting function. The role will work closely with operational teams and senior management to ensure accurate financial reporting and support strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the full finance and accounting function for operational entities.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Oversee month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management activities.
• Perform balance‑sheet reconciliations and ensure record accuracy.
• Monitor revenue recognition, cost allocations and operational expenditure.
• Ensure compliance with IFRS, tax legislation and company policies.
• Manage VAT submissions, statutory returns and tax compliance.
• Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency.
• Partner with operational and business leaders to provide financial insights.
• Mentor and support junior finance team members where applicable.

Required profile

• BCom Accounting, Finance or related qualification.
• Completed SAICA/SAIPA articles (advantageous).
• 5–8 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a senior accounting role.
• Experience in telecommunications, technology, ICT or service industries (advantageous).
• Strong understanding of management accounting and operational finance.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and reporting capabilities.
• Commercially astute with strong attention to detail.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work in a dynamic, deadline‑driven environment.
