Security Officer

About the role

The Security Officer will safeguard SA Metal’s Secunda site by controlling access, conducting searches, and patrolling assigned areas. This role ensures the safety of personnel, visitors and assets while maintaining compliance with company policies and legal requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Control entry and exit at all SA Metal property, complete registers and operate gates.
• Search pedestrians, vehicles and personal belongings of anyone leaving the premises.
• Issue and collect personal protective equipment (PPE) for customers and visitors.
• Verify that items leaving the site are accompanied by proper documentation.
• Conduct breathalyzer tests and other checks before granting staff access.
• Patrol assigned areas at regular intervals.
• Observe and report any suspicious activities.
• Ensure strict adherence to all company policies, procedures and safety regulations.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) qualification.
• Grade C security licence and PSIRA registration.
• 2‑3 years of relevant security experience.
• Hard‑working, self‑motivated and trustworthy.
• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Strong time‑management and organisational abilities.
• Professional appearance, punctuality and willingness to work extended hours.
• Good customer‑service orientation.
