Sector Head: Mining and Construction

About the role

The Sector Head for Mining and Construction will lead Merchant West’s lending activities in these high‑growth sectors. Reporting to senior management, you will be responsible for driving portfolio growth, profitability and credit quality while positioning the firm as a specialist financier.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the sector strategy covering origination, credit, pricing and risk management.
• Own national performance metrics, including sales budget, book growth and profitability.
• Support regional teams in deal origination, structuring and closing, and manage key supplier relationships.
• Maintain a sales pipeline equal to 300% of the monthly budget and monitor work‑in‑progress at 500%.
• Oversee credit application submissions, client and supplier meeting activity, and cross‑selling opportunities.
• Streamline sales processes, create enablement tools and resolve bottlenecks.
• Coach and develop the sales team, fostering a collaborative and accountable culture.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (field not specified).
• Extensive experience in asset finance, lending or related financial services within mining or construction.
• Proven track record of managing large portfolios and achieving sales targets.
• Strong understanding of credit risk, pricing and portfolio management.
