Sales & Customer Service Team Leader – Logistics

About the role

South African Inland Logistics is seeking a Sales & Customer Service Team Leader to oversee its logistics desk in Durban. The role combines a sales‑driven approach with day‑to‑day customer service, ensuring efficient deliveries and high client satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Overall accountability for the logistics function, ensuring customer expectations and driver instructions are met.
• Manage existing customer accounts and coordinate delivery schedules with the Execution Desk.
• Provide shipment rate quotations and set up shipments as required.
• Process customer instructions and invoicing accurately using the company’s fleet management software.
• Enter all fleet operation activities promptly and accurately.
• Track status updates and communicate with customers via WhatsApp, email, or telephone.
• Deliver exceptional service to both customers and carriers, resolving issues promptly.
• Answer telephone enquiries professionally and manage third‑party suppliers such as depots and shipping lines.
• Monitor and evaluate sales performance against business unit targets.
• Maintain health and safety standards and perform general logistics and administrative duties.

Required profile

• Target‑driven and comfortable working to revenue, quote‑conversion and activity targets.
• Commercially aware with an understanding of pricing, margins and sales opportunities.
• Customer‑focused, balancing service quality with account growth.
• Strong leadership ability to set standards, delegate work, coach staff and address underperformance.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Organised, analytical and able to prioritise urgent customer requirements.
• Resilient, proactive and capable of handling pressure, rejection and changing priorities.
• Problem‑solver who takes ownership of service issues.
