Responsible Pharmacist – Regulatory Compliance

About the role

The Responsible Pharmacist (Regulatory) ensures that pharmacy operations comply with all relevant South African legislation and standards. This full‑time position involves supervising pharmacy staff, maintaining licences, and handling audit and inspection outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily pharmacy operations to ensure compliance with the Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974 and the Medicines and Related Substances Act 101 of 1965.
• Address corrective actions arising from Pharmacy Council or SAHPRA inspection reports.
• Maintain current registrations, licences, and certifications (DOH, SAPC, SAHPRA, ISO).
• Respond to audit findings from SAPC, SAHPRA and the Department of Health.
• Oversee all pharmacists appointed by the pharmacy owner and ensure their activities meet regulatory standards.
• Report any non‑compliance in writing to management and provide copies to the Pharmacy Council.

Required profile

• Minimum tertiary qualification: B.Pharm or B.Sc. Pharm.
• Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council.
• At least 5 years of experience in a similar regulatory or compliance environment.
• Working knowledge of the Pharmacy Act and Medicines and Related Substances Control Acts.
• Familiarity with Good Wholesale/Distribution Practices in South Africa.
