Resident Engineer – Rail Siding Construction (Contract)

About the role

Empower Africa Consulting seeks an experienced Resident Engineer to lead the construction of a rail siding in the Northern Cape. The role involves full‑time contract administration and on‑site supervision of a multidisciplinary railway project.

Key responsibilities

• Provide full‑time site supervision throughout construction.
• Monitor compliance with approved drawings, specifications and method statements.
• Administer the construction contract in line with FIDIC Conditions of Subcontract (2011).
• Review subcontractor submissions, including programmes, quality plans and method statements.
• Maintain site records, registers and construction documentation.
• Verify quantities and support interim payment certification.
• Monitor construction quality and review laboratory testing results.
• Manage non‑conformances and corrective actions.
• Track progress against the approved programme and identify risks.
• Ensure occupational health, safety and environmental compliance.
• Coordinate with TRIM, Transnet Freight Rail, mine representatives and other stakeholders.
• Prepare daily, bi‑weekly and monthly progress reports.
• Participate in technical, progress and risk meetings.
• Assist with project close‑out, snagging and final accounts.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or National Diploma in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional registration with ECSA (Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Pr Techni Eng).
• Minimum 10 years post‑qualification experience in civil and/or railway infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience in construction site supervision and contract administration, preferably under FIDIC contracts.
• Experience in measurement, payment certification and construction quality management.
