Research Nurse – Night Shift, 3‑Month Fixed‑Term Contract

About the role

The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) is seeking four qualified Research Nurses to work night shifts on a three‑month fixed‑term basis. You will support ongoing HIV, reproductive health and vaccinology studies by collecting clinical data and biological specimens in accordance with study protocols and Good Clinical Practice.

Key responsibilities

• Inform participants about study objectives and verify consent status.
• Collect and process blood, cord blood and other biological samples as specified.
• Record vital signs, perform pre‑ and post‑test counselling for HIV and Hepatitis B, and provide health education.
• Document all procedures, sample handling and participant data in source documents following GCP standards.
• Maintain accurate clinical records, inventory of specimens, and ensure proper storage or shipment to the laboratory.
• Report protocol deviations, compile activity reports and support quality‑control activities.

Required profile

• Diploma in General Nursing (3 years) and a valid driver’s licence.
• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience; experience in HIV research is advantageous.
• Ability to work night shifts and follow detailed SOPs.

Required skills

• Good Clinical Practice (GCP) knowledge.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
