Regulatory Counsel – South Africa

About the role

Binance is seeking an experienced Regulatory Counsel to support its growth across African jurisdictions, primarily South Africa. You will provide legal guidance on product offerings, licensing, marketing, AML/CTF and other regulatory matters, helping shape the company’s long‑term strategy.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on regulatory issues including product licensing, marketing restrictions, compliance and AML/CTF across multiple African markets.
• Draft and review strategic plans and submissions to regulators; respond to enquiries and influence regulatory strategy.
• Guide product and marketing teams on permissible offerings and campaigns.
• Develop and manage legal and compliance programmes with local teams.
• Monitor legal developments and provide strategic advice to ensure compliance.
• Prepare leadership summaries, proposals, reports and commentary on upcoming legislation.
• Manage relationships with external law firms and relevant stakeholders.

Required profile

• Admission to practice in South Africa or another common‑law jurisdiction.
• 8+ years post‑qualification experience at top‑tier law firms or financial institutions.
• Proven experience advising banks, investment managers or payments platforms on regulatory matters.
• Strong research, analytical and drafting abilities.
• Self‑motivated, collaborative and able to work in a fluid environment.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Familiarity with AI tools is a plus.
