Registered Nurse – Theatre – Ophthalmology

About the role

Our client, a private Eye Institute in Arcadia, Pretoria, is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to work in the ophthalmology theatre. The role involves both scrub and recovery duties, providing safe peri‑operative care for eye surgery patients.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive peri‑operative nursing care in line with the Scope of Practice.
• Collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team to ensure patient safety and a positive experience.
• Identify, prevent and manage risks throughout the surgical process.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of all nursing interventions.
• Create a learning environment that builds staff competence.
• Ensure all stock and equipment used are correctly accounted for and charged.

Required profile

• Valid SANC nursing licence.
• Minimum 1 year post‑qualification experience in ophthalmology theatre scrub/recovery.
• Additional qualification in Operating Theatre Nursing or a Diploma in Critical Care Nursing is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of nursing scope of practice, relevant legislation and the scientific nursing process.
• Knowledge of theatre and CSSD policies, surgical equipment management, infection prevention and control, and risk management.
