Registered Nurse – Pre-Admission Testing

About the role

The Pre‑Admission Testing (PAT) Registered Nurse is a key coordinator in the surgical care continuum, responsible for assessing, educating, and preparing patients for safe surgical and procedural interventions. This role ensures that all pre‑operative requirements are completed, clinical risks are identified, and patients receive clear guidance before their surgery date.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive pre‑operative nursing assessments, reviewing health history, medications, allergies, surgical and anesthesia history, and current health status.
• Evaluate laboratory results, diagnostic tests, and medical clearances to confirm patient readiness for surgery.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, internal medicine physicians, and other disciplines to facilitate medical optimization.
• Ensure completion of all required pre‑operative testing, consultations, documentation, and authorizations in line with regulatory standards.
• Serve as the primary coordinator of the pre‑admission process, communicating with patients, provider offices, registration, laboratory, radiology, and ancillary departments.
• Track and manage outstanding pre‑operative requirements, escalating clinical concerns when necessary.
• Provide individualized patient education on surgical preparation, medication management, fasting, arrival instructions, discharge planning, and post‑operative expectations.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record.

Required profile

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Experience in peri‑operative, ambulatory, or pre‑admission nursing settings.
• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Commitment to patient safety, regulatory compliance, and high‑quality care.
