Refrigeration Foreman – Industrial Cooling

About the role

Festive, a leading integrated poultry producer within the Astral Group, is seeking a Refrigeration Foreman to manage and oversee the safe, reliable and energy‑efficient operation of its industrial cooling and freezing systems, including an ammonia plant. The role ensures proper product temperatures, food‑safety compliance and continuous plant availability.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and supervise the refrigeration team and overall plant operation.
• Operate, maintain, improve and ensure availability of the ammonia refrigeration plant.
• Conduct routine inspections, repairs and preventive maintenance to minimise breakdowns.
• Control purchasing requisitions, spare parts inventory and cost reporting.
• Implement Health & Safety procedures, 20 Keys, HACCP and general housekeeping standards.
• Oversee contractor activities, prepare daily reports and handle standby duties.
• Train staff on legislation, safety protocols and operational best practices.

Required profile

• N6 Diploma and qualified artisan, preferably in ammonia refrigeration.
• Competency certificate for ammonia plant (Level 2 CAT B Ammonia License) and safe‑handling training.
• Minimum five years’ experience in ammonia maintenance and related projects.
• Proven supervisory or foreman experience with strong people‑management skills.
• Willingness to work shifts, weekends, overtime and be on call.
• Organised, computer‑literate and able to work under pressure.
• Own reliable transport.
