QuickBooks Certified Bookkeeper

About the role

MainStreet (Bench) is looking for a QuickBooks Certified Bookkeeper to support its clients, which are small business owners. The role covers accurate bookkeeping, monthly financial reviews and acting as the main point of contact for clients, with a requirement to be based in the Johannesburg area and work North American business hours (9 AM - 5 PM PST).

Key responsibilities

• Categorize transactions accurately, reconcile accounts and keep ledgers clean.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies with attention to detail.
• Run monthly financial reviews so each client's books stay accurate and up to date.
• Serve as the main point of contact for clients, communicating clearly by chat, email and phone.
• Explain financial information in a way clients can easily understand and build strong relationships.
• Proactively identify and resolve client concerns and own the client experience from start to finish.
• Collaborate with internal teams using tools such as Salesforce and Slack.

Required profile

• Active QuickBooks Online certification.
• 3+ years of experience in bookkeeping, auditing or tax preparation.
• 1+ year of customer-facing or client service experience, ideally supporting U.S.-based clients.
• Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Excellent spoken and written English; strong customer service mindset and high attention to detail.
• Based in the Johannesburg area and available during North American business hours.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience using QuickBooks Online.
• Ability to use Salesforce and Slack.
